Description
Ink illustration of a male rhino iguana.
Drawn using one of my own photographs as reference, I used mostly Sakura pigma micron marker pens and an Akashiya Sai ink brush pen for the darkest areas. I used stippling techniques for most of the detail to build up contrast and add depth to the iguanas scales.
Rhinoceros iguana (Cyclura cornuta) are a very large endangered species of lizard, all lizards are reptiles. They are found mostly on the Caribbean island of Hispaniola and also in the Republic of Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Their skin is usually grey but can range also from green to brown. Males have horn like growths on the snout giving them their name ‘rhinoceros.’ Both males and female have a crested row of pointed spines along the back of the body and tail.
