Description
Portrait of a pair of wild chestnut red and white shetland pony.
I photographed this pair of beautiful shetland ponies on a rare snowy winter day near the town of Burley in the New Forest National Park, Hampshire in the south of England UK.
Shetland ponies are a hardy breed of pony originating from the Shetland Isles in Scotland. They are known for their small cute appearance, with short legs and a heavy coat with thick fur. The New Forest is home to only a few shetland ponies, they are usually found with New Forest ponies grazing in areas of heathland or woodland.
The New Forest is a large tract of crown land and today one of the largest countryside areas areas of pasture land, heathland and forest in Southern England, it covers southwest Hampshire and southeast Wiltshire. There are common rights in various areas where ponies, horses, cows and even some pigs and donkeys roam free to graze and maintain the heathland.
