Description
Photograph of a European bumblebee on a pink flowering Japanese spiraea (Spiraea japonica).
Bumble bees are insects and bugs and because they feed on nectar they are very important for pollination. Bumblebees have round bodies covered in a fluffy soft hair which gives them their fuzzy appearance. Their appearance is widely recognised by their black and yellow striped bodies, the last stripe here being white.
Spirea, or spiraea is a very popular deciduous flowering shrub found in many a home garden, they flower in spring and summer and their vibrant blooms have long lasting foliage. The flowers here are pink, but spiraea can also be found in red, yellow and white.
