Description
Portrait of a light golden buckskin coloured New Forrest pony or horse.
I photographed this beautiful pony on a heathland area near the town of Burley in the New Forest National Park, Hampshire in the south of England UK.
The New Forest pony is a breed of pony native to Great Britain and are indigenous only to the New Forest National Park. They are a fairly small horse breed and are known for being very hardy. The New Forest is home to a few thousand New Forest ponies, and are found both near the town areas and grazing in areas of heathland or woodland. They are most commonly seeing bay, chestnut and grey coat colours but many other combinations can be seen.
The New Forest is a large tract of crown land and today one of the largest countryside areas areas of pasture land, heathland and forest in Southern England, it covers southwest Hampshire and southeast Wiltshire. There are common rights in various areas where ponies, horses, cows and even some pigs and donkeys roam free to graze and maintain the heathland.
