Description
Black and white animal ink illustration of an adult ring-tailed lemur, this is the third in a trio of illustrations depicting a lemur walking.
Drawn using one of my own photographs as reference, I used mostly Sakura pigma micron marker pens and and an Akashiya Sai ink brush pen for the darkest areas.
The ring-tailed lemur (Lemur catta) is the most famous species of lemur, well known for their long black and white striped tail, they have soft, thick fur which a greyish brown on the body and white cream underneath and on the face. They have striking orange eyes ringed with black and a long black muzzle. One of the most popular animals widely seen in zoos worldwide, they are listed as endangered with only around 2,000 left in the wild. Ring-tailed lemurs live in large groups and are found in the southern regions of Madagascar, living in gallery forests and spiny scrub.
Lemurs are a primate found only on the Island of Madagascar There is around 100 living species of lemur, most of which are small with big eyes and long tails. According to the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) lemurs are the worlds most endangered mammals.
